Release and expansion of Serbian film Kengur se vraća kući
Overview
Director and screenwriter Miroslav Momčilović held a press conference to discuss his upcoming film, ‘Kengur se vraća kući’ (Kengur Returns Home). Momčilović clarified that the production is a ‘sports romantic tragedy’ and a cinematic spin-off rather than a direct sequel to the 2004 film ‘Kad porastem biću Kengur’. The project aims to fulfill an original vision of being set in Novi Beograd.
The film held its premiere at the Sava Centar in Belgrade. The story follows a goalkeeper who returns to his home neighborhood in Belgrade following the abrupt end of his career in England. While it features the same protagonist as the original cult classic, Momčilović maintains it is a ‘kind of film spinoff’.
The premiere included a red carpet appearance by the cast and crew. Lead actor Andrija Kuzmanović, who portrays Zoran Paunović, highlighted a two-year preparation process for the role. Other notable cast members in attendance included Jelisaveta Orašanin and Ivana Dudić. The event also featured appearances by singer Vesna Vukelić Vendi and actor Nikola Vujović. The premiere drew public attention to the appearance of Mirjana Božović Rutović and the relationship between Jelisaveta Orašanin and Pavle Mensur.
Following the Belgrade premiere, the film, also referred to as ‘Kengur se vraća doma’, is scheduled to premiere in Macedonian cinemas on October 1. The narrative follows Kengur, who, after finishing his football career at age 40, loses his coaching license for the English Championship due to circumstances involving racism. He returns to Belgrade to coach the club ‘Bežanija’ to save them from the bottom of the table, a process complicated by a documentary crew from the fictional UBC TV.
