Box office success of Án Mạng Karaoke

The Vietnamese psychological thriller and detective-comedy ‘Án Mạng Karaoke’, directed by Hoàng Lê with creative director Võ Thanh Hòa, has seen significant commercial success during its early screening period. The plot follows a group of neighbors at a remote mountain resort where the murder of a karaoke enthusiast triggers a suspenseful investigation among the guests.

Anticipation for the film grew following the release of its second trailer, which highlighted themes of psychological tension, violent outbursts, and spiritualism set against a backdrop of isolation caused by a landslide. The trailer suggested a complex web of suspects, noting that many characters in the vicinity reportedly harbored resentment toward the victim, Thủy.

During the weekend of October 23-25, the film claimed the top position at the Vietnamese box office, earning approximately 21.7 billion VND. Including early screenings, the film’s total revenue has exceeded 31 billion VND. This performance nearly doubled the 11 billion VND earned by its closest competitor, effectively ending the multi-week dominance of the long-running hit ‘Trại buôn người’ (Human Trafficking Camp) in terms of daily and weekend earnings.

While ‘Trại buôn người’ remains a major commercial force with over 484 billion VND in cumulative revenue, ‘Án Mạng Karaoke’ has disrupted its momentum through positive word-of-mouth and a blend of suspense and humor. The film features a cast including Vân Dung, Đại Nghĩa, Thanh Sơn, Đoàn Thiên Ân, and Trịnh Thảo. A wide release is scheduled for October 30.
