Religious and cultural events in Cruzeiro do Sul
Overview
Cruzeiro do Sul is hosting significant cultural and religious events. Preparations were finalized for the 9th Festival da Farinha, scheduled for August 26 to 29 at the Aeroporto Velho Sports Complex. To ensure public safety during the four nights of programming, local authorities, the Military Police, the Fire Department, and SAMU conducted technical inspections to coordinate security measures. For the first time, the festival included a dedicated night of joint religious worship on August 27, bringing together various denominations, including Catholic and Evangelical churches, to celebrate the city’s economic success. The festival featured several competitions celebrating regional cassava products. In the ‘Best Cassava-Derived Dish’ contest, confectioner Pâmela Ariane Mello won a R$ 2,000 prize for her creation, ‘Essência de Mandioca’, which utilized cassava in every stage of preparation. Other agricultural contests highlighted local production, such as a competition for the largest and heaviest cassava, where farmer José Nascimento presented a specimen weighing 31.9 kg. Local officials noted these events serve to value family farming, rural producers, and local gastronomic talent. Following the event, economic reports indicated that the 9th Festival da Farinha generated approximately R$ 13.5 million to R$ 13.6 million in revenue, representing a growth of over 400% compared to the previous year. Mayor Zequinha Lima noted that 2025 revenue was roughly R$ 3 million. Organized by the City Hall with Sebrae and the Commercial Association, the festival hosted 163 commercial participants. Kleber Campos, technical director of Sebrae in Acre, stated the festival is evolving from a cultural attraction into a “significant regional business fair.” In a separate religious milestone, the 108th Novenário of Nossa Senhora da Glória concluded with a massive procession. The Military Police reported approximately 50,000 participants, describing it as one of the largest religious manifestations in Northern Brazil.
