Renato Sanches explores move to Corinthians after Getafe]
Overview
Renato Sanches, a 29-year-old Portuguese midfielder, faced an uncertain future at Paris Saint-Germain due to injuries and a lack of consistent playing time. Following several loan spells at Roma, Benfica, and Panathinaikos, the club initially sought to move him on, with reported interest from Hull City.
Ultimately, Paris Saint-Germain and Sanches reached a mutual agreement to terminate his contract, which was originally scheduled to run until mid-2027. This departure made the former Golden Boy winner and Euro 2016 champion a free agent. Since joining the club from Lille in 2022 for approximately 15 million euros, Sanches made only 27 official appearances and scored two goals.
His career has been marked by struggles to maintain consistency at major clubs, including previous stints at Bayern Munich, Swansea City, and Lille. Following his departure from PSG, Sanches remained without a club as he sought a new professional challenge.
Negotiations to join Spanish La Liga club Getafe on a free transfer reached an advanced stage, as Sanches had expressed a preference to remain in European football despite interest from Saudi Arabia, Brazil, and the MLS. However, those talks with Getafe failed to reach an agreement. Following the collapse of his European options, Sanches has reportedly opened the door to a move to Brazil. The club Corinthians has submitted a second formal offer to the former Bayern Munich player in an attempt to integrate him into the squad quickly.
