Renault Niagara pickup production begins in Argentina

Overview

Renault has officially commenced mass production of the Niagara pickup truck at the Santa Isabel plant in Córdoba, Argentina. Developed over five years as a successor to the Duster Oroch, the vehicle is designed to bridge the gap between a robust pickup and a comfortable SUV.

The Santa Isabel facility underwent significant modernization to support the new production line, involving 278 infrastructure projects and the installation of over 60 industrial robots. The Niagara underwent extensive validation, including more than 800,000 kilometers of road testing.

Technical specifications include a 1.3 turbo flex engine producing up to 160 horsepower and 270 Nm of torque, available in 4x2 and 4x4 configurations with manual or dual-clutch automatic transmissions. While initial releases focus on internal combustion engines, Renault plans to introduce a four-wheel-drive hybrid variant in the future.

The vehicle is initially intended for the Argentine, Brazilian, and Colombian markets, with a scheduled arrival in Brazil for November. This launch is part of Renault’s ‘futuREady’ strategic plan to release 14 new models outside of Europe by 2030.

Local officials, including Córdoba Governor Martín Llaryora, have emphasized the project’s importance for regional employment and industrial activity. Llaryora highlighted the role of public-private collaboration and noted the advancement of a new Industrial Promotion Law and potential specific legislation for the auto parts sector to increase competitiveness.
