Renewable energy and battery storage project financing
Overview
Financial institutions are providing significant funding for battery energy storage systems (BESS) and hybrid renewable energy projects in the United Kingdom and Australia.
In early August 2026, Santander UK provided a senior debt facility to bring the 60 MW/120 MWh Inchbean farm battery project in East Ayrshire, Scotland, to financial close. Simultaneously, Deutsche Bank committed $60 million toward the third stage of the Supernode battery storage project in Queensland, Australia, as part of a larger $331 million financing package designed to support renewable integration and grid stability.
By mid-August 2026, European Energy secured £58.1 million from Danske Bank for the Indian Queens hybrid project in Cornwall, UK. This project combines a 68 MW solar park with a 47.5 MW/95 MWh battery storage system to improve infrastructure efficiency through a shared grid connection.
