Residential and commercial fires in France
Overview
In early September 2026, separate fires were reported in Rodez and Nice. In Rodez, a restaurant fire caused by a deep fryer spread to an outdoor structure, resulting in one individual being treated for smoke inhalation. In Nice, a fire in a second-floor apartment at a residence hotel required a significant deployment of firefighters, though no victims were reported.
By late September, additional residential fires occurred in various regions. In Toulouse, firefighters prevented a balcony fire from entering a building, and in Pontorson, a large house fire spread through multiple levels. In Chaumont, two consecutive fires involving a city vehicle and an unoccupied house led authorities to note that the circumstances “appear suspicious,” prompting a police investigation into the origins of the incidents.
