Residential building fires in Germany

Overview

In early September 2026, several residential building fires occurred in different German locations, resulting in property damage and injuries from smoke inhalation.

On September 4, a fire in a Dortmund apartment building originated in the basement, rendering the property uninhabitable and requiring the disconnection of power. On September 7, a fire in a Bochum apartment building started on the third floor; while the affected unit was rendered uninhabitable, other residents were able to return to their homes. On September 11, a severe fire in Ürzig necessitated a roof rescue for a trapped resident. In this instance, both the resident and a first responder were hospitalized for smoke inhalation, and the building sustained heavy damage.
