Residential burglaries and thefts in Germany
Overview
Police in various German regions are investigating multiple residential burglaries and thefts involving high-value items.
In the Oberberg district, several incidents occurred on September 25. In Marienheide, a 63-year-old witness observed three masked individuals, aged approximately 15 to 16, exiting a home through a window after stealing a watch and a silver bracelet. The suspects fled in a dark station wagon toward Kottenhausen; the driver was described as having dark skin and a mustache. In Gummersbach, an attempted burglary was reported on ‘Am Sandberg’ after a man climbed onto a balcony but fled when spotted; evidence of attempted forced entry was also found at a basement door. In Wiehl, thieves stole three watches and several medals from a bedroom on Ennenfeldstraße between 18:30 and 21:15, during which a resident encountered a fleeing woman in the garden.
In Erfurt, a separate high-value burglary occurred on September 27, where an intruder removed a security camera to enter through a window, stealing cash, jewelry, and watches valued at tens of thousands of euros.
Additional reports from late September indicate a broader wave of criminal activity. In St. Ilgen, thieves stole approximately 33,000 euros from a ground-floor apartment, while in Bad Homburg, a Mercedes G-Class valued at over 200,000 euros was taken from a driveway. Other residential thefts involving cash and jewelry were reported in Mettmann and Leimen.
Authorities also noted various distraction-based crimes, including a fake charity solicitor in Oberursel and a man using a fake inquiry about directions to steal jewelry from a 90-year-old in Friedrichsdorf. Commercial targets, including a restaurant in Winterberg-Züschen and food stalls in Oldenburg and Offenburg, were also burglarized.
