Residential energy renovation initiatives
Overview
Residential energy renovation projects in Bulgaria and France are demonstrating significant improvements in thermal efficiency and energy consumption through public funding and technical upgrades.
In Bulgaria, the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works is utilizing the National Recovery and Resilience Plan to renovate multi-family residential buildings. To date, 454 buildings covering over 2.2 million square meters have been renovated, with further contracts signed for 630 buildings scheduled for implementation through 2029. One highlighted project in Svishtov achieved an energy class B rating, resulting in a nearly 68% reduction in annual energy consumption.
In Brest, France, a renovation of a 1977 residential building improved its energy rating from D to B. The project, costing 1.58 million euros, utilized a “mur-rideau” (curtain wall) to convert balconies into living space and mitigate heat loss. This renovation was supported by subsidies from the Agence nationale de l’habitat (Anah), Brest métropole, and the Bretagne region.
