Residential fires in Japan

Overview

In mid-August 2026, a series of residential fires occurred in Oita Prefecture. In Usa City, a fire at a restaurant owner’s residence resulted in the discovery of a body, while a separate blaze at a prefectural employee residence in Oita City led to the hospitalization of two individuals for respiratory distress.

Later in the month, on August 31, additional residential fires were reported in other regions, including a building fire in the Arai Fire Station jurisdiction and a residence fire in Fukuoka City’s Hakata Ward, where black smoke was observed near JR Hakata Station.
