By mid-September, reports from the state of Portuguesa, Venezuela, indicated progress in the winter cycle harvest. Despite the challenges posed by El Niño, producers in municipalities such as Agua Blanca and Ospino reported favorable yields. Grain delivery to collection centers has proceeded smoothly, with storage silos operating at maximum capacity to preserve the harvest for national food supplies.

However, tensions have escalated in the Guárico region as producers protest the arrival of 355,000 tons of imported rice during the national harvest season. During a meeting in Caracas, agricultural delegations expressed their disapproval of Minister of Agriculture and Lands Vladimir Padrino López, accusing the state of allowing imports to undercut local prices. While Minister Padrino López defended the administration by stating that the water and rice sectors have grown over the last five years, farmers and representatives from the Vente Venezuela party argue that the current policy creates unfair competition. They contend that large volumes of imported grain are saturating the market and depressing prices, making it impossible for local producers to recover their investments.
