In July 2026 the Rock in Rio festival was projected to generate about R$3.3 billion for Rio de Janeiro’s economy. A month later, Rio Innovation Week ran from 4 to 7 August at the Pier Mauá, attracting more than 200 000 participants, including delegations from 30 countries. Organisers forecast an economic impact of roughly R$156.2 million. The six‑day programme, themed “Simbiose – the future does not happen in isolation”, covered artificial intelligence, sustainability, the Blue Economy and other emerging technologies. Highlights featured the Rio Sense Lab, an immersive neuro‑technology experience that recorded visitors’ reactions to Rio’s culture, and a sustainability debate on the Blue Economy. Pre‑event activities in Niterói brought local officials and innovators together to discuss smart‑city solutions, while the industry federation Firjan linked AI, biotech and circular‑economy initiatives to the region’s manufacturing sector. Together, the two events illustrate Rio de Janeiro’s 2026 strategy of leveraging large‑scale cultural and tech gatherings to stimulate economic growth and position the city as a regional hub for entertainment and innovation.
