Road safety education initiatives in Chile
Overview
In October 2026, VíasChile and the National Commission for Traffic Safety (CONASET) held a road safety education event in Santiago, Chile, to mark International Road Safety Education Day. The “School Road Park” session at the Plaza de la Constitución involved over 200 students from several local schools. Participants used a 200 m² miniature urban environment to practice safe pedestrian and passenger behaviors. Since its inception in 2024, the program has certified more than 2,000 children in the Metropolitan and Valparaíso regions.
Later in the month, similar educational efforts were noted in Hijuelas, Chile, where VíasChile hosted another “Parque Vial Escolar.” This program continues to use a miniature city model to teach traffic rules and mobility best practices to students through practical role-playing as pedestrians, drivers, and passengers.
