Road safety incidents in Galaţi County, Romania
Entities: Ionăşeşti village · 32‑year‑old father (driver) · Nicoreşti commune · Galaţi County · Romanian Police
Overview
In July 2026, two separate traffic-related incidents occurred in Galaţi County. On 17 July, a 45‑year‑old man from Vasile Alecsandri suffered a fatal heart attack while driving with his wife to the scene of his daughter’s minor road collision near Şendreni. He managed to stop his vehicle safely before losing consciousness and could not be revived despite prolonged CPR.
Less than ten days later, on 25 July, a 1‑year‑2‑month‑old child was killed in the village of Ionăşeşti when his 32‑year‑old father accidentally drove a parked car forward, striking the toddler who had emerged from a courtyard. Emergency services performed resuscitation for over an hour without success. Police confirmed the driver tested negative for alcohol and opened a criminal case for negligent homicide while continuing the investigation.
Both events prompted police inquiries and highlighted ongoing concerns about road safety and accident response in the region.
