Robbery incidents in El Alto, Bolivia

Overview

A series of robberies has been reported in El Alto, Bolivia.

In late August, a mining couple and their child were lured to a remote lot under the pretense of a compressor sale. Between six and eight armed individuals intercepted the family, stealing 180,000 bolivianos and their vehicle. While the vehicle was recovered near Viacha, the cash was not. The male victim sustained head injuries during the attack.

In early September, three hooded individuals broke into a jewelry store in the El Kenko neighborhood. The suspects used paint to obscure security cameras while forcing open metal shutters to steal jewelry valued at approximately Bs 150,000. Police are investigating the incident using footage from nearby residences.
