Roberto Cavallo ecological marathon in Italy
Overview
Eco-runner Roberto Cavallo launched the ‘Keep Clean and Run for peace 2026’ initiative, a 349-kilometer project designed to promote environmental awareness and waste collection across the Italian regions of Campania, Puglia, and Basilicata.
The marathon, which utilized the sport of plogging, began in Benevento and traveled through 30 municipalities via the Via Francigena del Sud and the Cammino Materano. The event concluded on October 3 in Bari at the Basilica of San Nicola.
By the end of the journey, participants and local citizens collected 500 kg of waste, such as packaging and glass bottles, which resulted in an estimated reduction of 350 kg of CO2 emissions. The conclusion featured a symbolic handover of the initiative’s flag to municipal environmental assessor Elda Perlino to emphasize community responsibility.
