Robin Räikkönen joins Red Bull Junior Team

Overview

Robin Räikkönen, the 11-year-old son of former Formula 1 World Champion Kimi Räikkönen, is being considered for a professional driver development path.

Initially, reports indicated that the family was evaluating various options to support the young kart racer’s development through a structured path involving Formula 4, Formula 3, and Formula 2. Family friend Gino Rosato noted that the decision would focus on providing a genuine racing environment rather than relying on the Räikkönen name.

Following reports of his presence at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza near senior Red Bull figures, Robin Räikkönen has officially signed with the Red Bull Junior Team. Known by the nickname ‘Ace’, the Finnish driver has built a reputation in karting through various national and international Rotax and WSK championship titles. He is scheduled to join the academy’s driver development programme starting in 2027.

Red Bull leadership, including Laurent Mekies, cited the driver’s speed, racecraft, and maturity as primary factors in the signing. Mekies stated that the programme intends to develop the driver “step by step while shielding him from undue pressure,” noting that he is one of the most promising drivers in his age group.

Kimi Räikkönen expressed pride and excitement regarding his son joining the programme, highlighting the “helpfulness of the Red Bull team during the process” and the illustrious history of the academy, which has previously supported champions such as Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen.
