Rocket Lab GHOST launch system development
Overview
Rocket Lab has introduced the Global Hypersonic & Orbital Spaceport Technology (GHOST), a modular and containerized launch system. The technology integrates rockets, ground support, propellant-loading hardware, and telemetry-tracking units into standard shipping containers to enable rapid deployment from various global locations.
Developed to meet demands for flexible flight trajectories and increased orbital access, the system is intended to support both commercial utility and national security requirements, such as hypersonic testing. The initiative is supported by a $266 million contract from the U.S. Space Force.
The first installation, Launch Complex 4, will be established at the Pacific Spaceport Complex in Kodiak, Alaska, to support missions for the Electron and HASTE vehicles. This new Alaskan site is expected to feature two launch pads to support intensive operations and will complement Rocket Lab’s existing capabilities in New Zealand and Virginia. The system is expected to make its operational debut with a suborbital launch in 2027.
