Romania and Moldova road infrastructure development
Overview
Infrastructure development in Romania and Moldova has seen recent progress in motorway and highway projects. In Romania, the National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration (CNAIR) awarded a 20-year contract to MOL România Petroleum Products SRL for the design, construction, and operation of the first two service areas on the A7 motorway. These facilities will include fuel stations, commercial spaces, and electric vehicle charging points.
Simultaneously, construction on the A1 Margina–Holdea section of the A1 motorway has reached 75% completion. This phase involves tunnel excavations, the installation of concrete beams for viaducts, and the laying of road binder layers. The project, funded through the PNRR, aims to complete the connection between Lugoj and Deva.
In Moldova, the National Road Administration has initiated a tender for a feasibility study regarding the Ungheni-Chișinău highway, which is characterized as the most ambitious road infrastructure project in the country’s history.
