Romania-India economic cooperation

Overview

Economic cooperation between Romania and India has progressed through high-level diplomatic and regional engagements. In July 2026, the inaugural Romania-India Economic Forum was held in Argeș County, organized by Argeș Invest in partnership with the Embassy of India. The event brought together approximately 30 Indian business representatives and Romanian officials to discuss bilateral trade and investment in sectors including automotive manufacturing, defense, IT, AI, and agri-tech.

Following this, in August 2026, the Indian Ambassador to Romania, Dr. Manoj Kumar Mohapatra, visited Hunedoara County to further these economic ties. Discussions with local officials focused on helping Indian companies expand into the European Union market. The Ambassador identified seven priority sectors for potential cooperation: supply chain management, pharmaceuticals, energy technologies, diesel technology, education, AI and digitalization, and the defense industry.
