Romania-Moldova cross-border cooperation
Overview
Cross-border cooperation between Romania and Moldova has progressed from local administrative partnerships to larger, EU-funded regional initiatives.
Initially, the commune of Jucu in Romania and the village of Mașcăuți in Moldova moved toward a twinning agreement intended to foster joint development, infrastructure improvements, and cultural ties. Mayor Valentin‑Dorel Pojar noted that EU funding had previously modernized Jucu, and the partnership aimed to bring similar benefits to Mașcăuți.
This cooperation expanded through the launch of several INTERREG-funded projects. In Moldova, the CONNECT project, a partnership between the Anenii Noi District Council and Botoșani County Council, was established with a budget of approximately 1.46 million euros to improve healthcare access and medical infrastructure. Additionally, the CROSS-EDU Link project was initiated to enhance digital safety for children in the region.
