Romanian football club youth development partnerships

Overview

Romanian football clubs are establishing youth development partnerships following new regulations from the Romanian Football Federation (FRF). These rules allow Superliga clubs to form official cooperation agreements with Liga 2 clubs to facilitate professional match experience for young players.

In early August 2026, Universitatea Cluj and Politehnica Timișoara signed an agreement for the 2026-2027 season. Under this arrangement, Politehnica Timișoara can utilize up to five players from Universitatea Cluj, provided they remain under contract with the latter and meet specific playing time requirements to maintain eligibility for play-offs or play-outs.

Later in August 2026, CFR 1907 Cluj and Olimpia VSK entered a similar formal cooperation agreement. This partnership allows CFR Cluj to designate up to five players born on or after January 1, 2004, to play for Olimpia VSK to gain experience while remaining under contract with the top-tier side.
