Romanian military drone production development
Overview
Romania is seeing increased industrial interest in the production of military drones and autonomous systems.
In late July, Ukrainian drone manufacturer EDRONE and Romanian firm OVES Enterprise announced a partnership to establish a production facility in Cluj‑Napoca. The venture aims to produce FPV, interceptor, and reconnaissance drones, with an initial target of 1,000 units per month. The project intends to utilize OVES’s Nemesis AI system and replace Chinese components with locally manufactured parts to support the Romanian defense market and Ukraine’s needs.
Following this, AETA SA (formerly Electroargeș) expressed its own intention to enter the defense sector. The company notified the Romanian Minister of National Defence of its readiness to produce drones and autonomous systems, citing its large-scale industrial platform and technical capabilities in molding, welding, and assembly.
