Romanian seizure of stolen European vehicles

Overview

Romanian authorities have intercepted several high-value vehicles reported stolen in other European nations.

At the Stânca border crossing, police seized a Moldovan-registered motorcycle that had been identified as stolen from Italy. The vehicle’s identification series had been modified to evade detection, though authorities recovered the original serial number matching a 2012 alert. The driver claimed to have purchased the motorcycle in Moldova in 2024 without knowledge of its legal status.

In separate incidents, Romanian police and Frontex officers recovered German-registered vehicles. In Satu Mare County, a vehicle sought by German law enforcement for use as evidence in criminal proceedings was located in Vama. Additionally, in Bacău County, a search in Corbasca led to the discovery of another German-registered vehicle listed in international databases. Romanian officials have initiated judicial cooperation with German institutions to investigate the circumstances regarding the theft and transport of these vehicles.
