Romanian Superliga stadium infrastructure issues

Controversy has emerged regarding the playing surface at the Ilie Oană Stadium in Ploiești. Club officials and coaching staff at Petrolul Ploiești expressed dissatisfaction with the pitch, which has not been replaced in 15 years. Coach Ricardo Sousa described the conditions as a “lack of respect” toward the team and fans, noting that the surface had been further degraded by hosting over 25 matches during the Diversity Cup.

Following a notification from the Professional Football League (LPF), maintenance work has commenced to replace parts of the playing surface. While Mayor Mihai Polițeanu indicated that installation might be completed within a week, specialists have advised that the pitch requires approximately six weeks of rest to settle. Consequently, Petrolul Ploiești may be forced to play home matches at alternative venues, such as Târgoviște, during the maintenance period.

Separately, the Petre Libardi Stadium in Petroșani has received official accreditation from the Romanian Football Federation (FRF) and the LPF to host Superliga matches for Corvinul Hunedoara after meeting safety and infrastructure standards.
