Romina Hinojosa's Tour de France Femmes debut
Overview
In late July 2026, Romina Hinojosa was named to the Intermarché‑Lotto Ladies team, becoming the first Mexican woman selected for the Tour de France Femmes. A mountain specialist from Tampico, Tamaulipas, Hinojosa joined the Belgian squad following strong performances in the Giro Mediterráneo Rosa and the Vuelta a Portugal.
She started the race on the opening 138-km stage in Lausanne and finished 129th, 14 min 54 s behind winner Lorena Wiebes. On 2 August, Wiebes won the second stage from Aigle to Geneva, extending her lead. Hinojosa continued to compete through the following stages, reinforcing her historic achievement as the first Mexican to complete multiple stages of the premier women's race.
During Stage 8, a 171.9-km route from Sisteron to Nice, Hinojosa achieved her best performance of the race by finishing 42nd. This result improved her general classification standing from 127th to 121st. As the race approached its conclusion, she remained one of only three active riders for the Lotto-Intermarché team. In the general classification heading into the final stage, Demi Vollering held the yellow jersey with an eight-second lead over Kasia Niewiadoma.
Hinojosa concluded the fifth edition of the race by finishing 113th in the general classification with a total time of 33:48:33. She showed improvement in the final stage, climbing eight positions to finish 91st for the day. Her completion of the race is noted for her endurance in a competition where more than 40 riders withdrew. Mexican cyclist Isaac del Toro, who recently extended his contract with UAE Team Emirates through 2031, traveled to France to support Hinojosa during the final stages.
