Overview

Athletic running events have been organized across the region, including the final stage of the ‘Istanbul’u Koşuyorum’ series in Yenikapı and the inaugural Iskele Half Marathon. While registrations for the 42K, 15.5K, and Corporate Run categories are complete, registration for the free 6.5-kilometer public run (Halk Koşusu) opened on Wednesday, October 21, 2026. This category has a quota of 5,000 participants for individuals at least 14 years old. The route is expected to start near the 15 July Martyrs Bridge metrobus stop or Altunizade Bridge, cross to the European side, and conclude in Dolmabahçe. Bib numbers can be collected from eight designated locations across the Anatolian and European sides of Istanbul. The elite field for the marathon includes 47 athletes. In the men’s category, 2024 champion Dejene Debela will compete to defend his title. In the women’s category, defending champion Bizuager Aderra of Ethiopia returns to defend her title against competitors such as Kenya’s Judith Korir and Ethiopia’s Kasaneh Baze. Preparatory activities include a Marathon and Sports Fair scheduled from October 29 to 31 at the Dr. Mimar Kadir Topbaş Show and Art Center in Yenikapı.
