During a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Vladimir Putin and urged an immediate end to hostilities, stating that “every day of war is a step backward for humanity.” Modi emphasized India's support for a peaceful resolution, invoking the legacies of Mahatma Gandhi and Mother Teresa. Putin responded that Russia is moving in the direction of ending the conflict, though he provided no specific timeline or terms. Recent reports from The Economist suggest that Putin faces significant internal pressure and personal security concerns, reportedly telling associates, “I will be hanged,” if the war ends without achieving minimum objectives such as the capture of the Donbas region.
