Russian attack on Polish-owned Cersanit factory in Ukraine

Overview

A Russian drone attack on the night of September 11-12 struck the Cersanit Invest factory in the Zhytomyr Oblast of Ukraine. The facility, owned by the Polish company Cersanit SA, produces sanitary ceramics and tiles. The strike caused a fire at the plant located in the village of Czyżywka.

While no casualties were reported specifically at the factory, the broader strikes in the Zhytomyr region resulted in at least two deaths following an impact on a grocery store. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that such attacks represent a shift toward targeting the economy and civilian infrastructure.

Following the strike, Cersanit announced that the factory would suspend operations for at least six months due to severe damage to critical components of the production cycle. The company stated that the destruction of the technological sequence makes normal operations impossible for the time being. Despite the damage, the company indicated it does not intend to withdraw from the Ukrainian market.
