Rusty-spotted cat habitat at The Big Cat Sanctuary

Overview

The Big Cat Sanctuary in Smarden, Kent, has opened a new purpose-built outdoor enclosure for Kuda, a male Rusty-spotted cat. The habitat is the largest of its kind in the UK and features five-metre-high structures, elevated walkways, and climbing elements designed to mimic the natural environments of India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal.

As the world’s smallest wild cat species, the Rusty-spotted cat is classified as ‘near-threatened’ by the IUCN due to deforestation and human encroachment. Following Kuda’s successful transition into the new space, the sanctuary is seeking a female breeding partner to assist with international conservation and breeding programmes intended to safeguard the species.
