SADC Summit security in Durban

Overview

In preparation for the 46th Southern African Development Community (SADC) Summit in Durban, the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS) activated a large-scale security operation. Lieutenant General Tebello Mosikili stated that law enforcement, intelligence, and emergency services were coordinating to ensure stability and public safety for the event, which was scheduled for 16–17 August.

During the summit, security breaches occurred at the Durban International Convention Centre, resulting in the arrest of three individuals. Police reported that two Congolese nationals were apprehended for allegedly attempting to use stolen or fraudulent accreditation cards to access the venue. Additionally, a Zimbabwean national was arrested for allegedly attempting to enter the restricted zone by posing as a performing artist and claiming his immigration documents had been stolen.
