Safe Staff, Safe Venues workplace initiative

Overview

The ‘Safe Staff, Safe Venues’ initiative, launched in June 2025 by the Victorian Trades Hall Council (VTHC), was named the Cultural Change Champion at the 46th Age Good Food Guide awards.

The program was established to address systemic issues, including sexual harassment and gender-based violence, within the hospitality, arts, and events sectors. It aims to provide workers—particularly women, gender-diverse individuals, international students, and those on temporary visas—with the knowledge and collective support necessary to combat exploitation and unsafe workplace cultures. Carolyn Dunbar, the VTHC Women’s Team lead, noted that the award supports the mission to achieve ‘long-term, systemic change.’
