Sahel military leadership and regional cooperation

Overview

Military leadership in the Sahel region has focused on internal inspections, regional cooperation, and mobilization efforts. In Niger, Brigadier General Maman Sani Kiou conducted missions to the Agadez region to inspect troops and combat disinformation, and later met with the Commission for the Organization, Preparation, and Monitoring of General Mobilization (COMOG) in Niamey to emphasize that mobilization is essential to protect “national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and population security.”

Within the Confederation of Sahel States (AES), Colonel Romaric Toé of Burkina Faso was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Sahelian Military Medicine Network in Niamey, a role intended to facilitate medical cooperation through 2027. Meanwhile, in Mali, Major General Elisée Jean Dao conducted inspections of the Direction of the Army Commissariat (DCA) to promote discipline and cohesion among personnel responsible for military supplies.
