Sale of spotted Westphalian foal J-Nimon K

Overview

A four-month-old Westphalian foal named J-Nimon K, originating from Brandenburg, Germany, was sold for a record 75,000 euros at an auction near Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna. The foal gained attention for its rare ‘Tigerschecke’ coat, which features brown-and-white markings resembling a zebra, Dalmatian, or giraffe due to the leopard gene.

The sale, which occurred during the Longines Global Champions Tour, was secured via telephone by a buyer from Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The final price significantly exceeded the auction average of approximately 27,000 euros. Breeder Steffen Krehl noted that while the foal’s sire, a Dutch stallion named Genius, is known for unique markings, the distinctive coloring is a matter of luck and not a guaranteed trait in offspring.

Beyond its auction success, the foal has become a viral sensation online due to its unusual appearance. While its future as a show or jumping horse remains undetermined, its striking pattern continues to draw significant public interest.
