Salobreña urban redevelopment proposal

Overview

Mayor Javier Ortega has proposed an urban redevelopment plan for the UE-S3 area at the northern entrance of Salobreña. Part of the Plan de Reforma Interior (PRI), the project intends to construct a new avenue to improve traffic flow between beach areas and the national road.

The development involves 14,409.64 square meters, with 31 percent designated for residential use, including 108 dwellings (21 of which are subsidized social housing). The remaining area is allocated for infrastructure, amenities, and public spaces. While the Junta de Andalucía’s environmental authority determined the project does not require a strategic environmental assessment, the local citizens' group Cal y Caña has filed 24 objections. The group claims the development will harm the urban panorama near the castle and exceeds permitted building density. Mayor Ortega has rejected these objections, stating the plan follows all regulations.
