Samsung P Series USB4 portable SSD launch

Samsung Electronics introduced its new P Series of USB4-powered portable solid-state drives (SSDs) at Gamescom 2026. The lineup consists of the flagship P9 model and the P7 model, both designed to support high-speed data requirements for gaming, AI content creation, and high-resolution video.

The P9 is marketed toward professional workflows, offering sequential read speeds up to 4,000 MB/s and sequential write speeds up to 3,800 MB/s. It is described as the world’s first USB4 portable SSD to offer an 8TB capacity and is capable of supporting direct 12K video recording. The P9 also received a CES 2026 Innovation Award.

The P7 model is intended for everyday consumers, featuring a thermal design optimized for less intensive, sustained writing operations. Both models are available in capacities from 1TB to 8TB and have passed durability standards, including 2-meter drop tests. Global sales are expected to begin in late August or early September 2026.
