Overview
A playable demo for the video game ‘Samurai Pizza Cats: Blast from the Past!’ is scheduled to debut at the Tokyo Game Show 2026, held at Makuhari Messe from September 17 to 21. Developed by the Dutch studio Blast Zero and distributed by the UAE-based Red Dunes Games, the 2D action title is a revival of the 1990 Tatsunoko Production anime.
The game features new animation sequences designed to replicate the original cel-shaded aesthetic of the 1990s series. The demo will focus on side-scrolling action and platforming mechanics, allowing players to switch between characters Yattarou, Sukashii, and Pururun. The Japanese script is being handled by original series writer Satoru Akahori, with a voice cast including returning actors Kappei Yamaguchi and Koichi Yamadera.
While the demo is limited to combat and action, the full release is expected to incorporate RPG elements such as exploration and character leveling. The demo will be available at the Red Dunes Games booth during the event.
