San Dionigi festivities in Crotone

Overview

The city of Crotone held festivities to honor its patron saint, San Dionigi Areopagita, from September 30 to October 9. The celebrations included a novena at the Basilica Cattedrale, daily Rosary recitations, and various liturgical events, such as prayers for vocations and the sick.

The festivities concluded with a solemnity on October 9, featuring a Mass and a procession. During the feast, the traditional blessing of seeds and fruits took place, which served to highlight the economic difficulties currently affecting the agricultural sector. These struggles include rising costs for fuel, fertilizers, and equipment, alongside broader protests across Calabria regarding production expenses and profit margins.

This event occurred alongside a period of diverse regional festivals and cultural events across Italy. Recent highlights include the Pordenonelegge book festival, which reported record attendance of over 190,000 people, and the Romaeuropa Festival. Gastronomic and innovation-focused events have also been prominent, such as the 20th International Market in Arezzo, the CioccoTuscia Festival in Viterbo, and the Tufo & Tartufo white truffle fair in Odalengo Piccolo. In Pescia, the Reinvento project won the Young Innovators Award for developing a device that converts plastic bottles into 3D printer filament. Other regional activities include the upcoming PizzaVille in Siderno, which includes a charitable component, and seasonal tourism promotions like the Ottobrando in Floresta and the Cappelletto Fest in Tolentino.
