While the expansion aims to increase production, it has faced criticism regarding environmental impacts, specifically concerning water consumption and the proximity of operations to glaciers and periglacial environments in the high mountains. Vicuña Mining is further expanding its logistics operations by launching a USD 70 million tender to acquire 200 high-end buses for personnel transport, a move expected to require between 400 and 500 professional drivers. The company has also awarded the first works for the ‘North Corridor’ access route.
