San Luis Potosí labor, security and economic developments

Overview

San Luis Potosí has reported positive trends in both employment and public safety. Data from the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare indicates the state added 1,695 formal jobs over the past year, bringing the total number of registered workers to 486,427 by late September 2026. Growth was observed in seven of nine economic sectors, with the commerce sector leading annual increases. In addition to these statistics, local authorities organized the eighth Job Recruitment Fair through the Secretariat of Women and Substantive Equality. Regarding public safety, the state recorded a 78.6 percent reduction in the daily average of intentional homicides between January and September 2026 compared to the previous year. Recent reports to the State Congress indicate further economic and social progress. Secretary General of Government J. Guadalupe Torres Sánchez noted that 339,000 people have moved out of poverty, representing a 28 percent reduction since 2020, aided by more than 67 billion pesos in social development investment. This investment represents an 87 percent increase compared to the previous administration. Furthermore, Secretary of Economic Development Mario García Valdez stated that the state attracted $2,552 million in investment over the past year, creating approximately 13,000 jobs. While benefits extend across various municipalities, roughly 80 percent of this investment is concentrated in the Capital Potosina and Villa de Reyes. Finance Secretary Ariana García Vidal provided a fiscal outlook, projecting that total state revenues could reach 70,459 million pesos by the end of 2026, up from 49,352 million pesos in 2021. While reporting that tax collection has nearly doubled and long-term debt has been reduced, she acknowledged financial pressures regarding pension systems, which could require up to 4,000 million pesos.
