Santa Cruz de Tenerife environmental and sanitation efforts
Overview
The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has implemented various initiatives focused on local environmental management and public health.
In late September, the city held a celebration for Animal and Biodiversity Day at Plaza del Príncipe. Organized by the Fundación Santa Cruz Sostenible, the event featured educational activities, agility demonstrations, and workshops aimed at promoting animal welfare, responsible pet ownership, and biodiversity protection. More than 15 animal shelters participated to facilitate adoptions.
Following this, in mid-October, the city launched a pest control campaign within the Centro-Ifara district. The initiative targets five neighborhoods—Salamanca, Las Mimosas, Las Acacias, Los Hoteles, and Zona Rambla—to monitor and treat rodents, cockroaches, and other insects. Authorities are supplementing this scheduled programming with reactive interventions based on citizen reports submitted via the ‘SC Mejora’ mobile application.
