Santiago del Estero regional development initiatives

Overview

The provincial government of Santiago del Estero has implemented several social, educational, and environmental initiatives.

To address the national economic crisis, Governor Elías Suárez announced a series of bonuses for social program beneficiaries. Recipients of social cards will receive $300,000 in three monthly installments of $100,000 during October, November, and December, restricted to food purchases. Celiac program beneficiaries will receive $165,000 in three installments of $55,000, while those under emergency plans will receive $330,000 in three installments of $110,000. The union UTEPSE, represented by General Secretary Miguel Raúl Marquesano, welcomed the decision, noting it provides relief to state workers and could boost local consumption.

In the sectors of education and environment, the Diocesan Board of Catholic Education (JUDECSE) collaborated with the National Socio-emotional Skills Program (HASE) to provide training for school representatives to support student development. Additionally, the province entered a technical cooperation agreement with the College of Graduates in Forest Sciences to improve forest ecosystem management through projects such as identifying degraded lands, a pilot restoration project, and the establishment of a Provincial Nursery Registry.

Looking toward 2027 and 2028, Governor Suárez presented a strategic investment plan focusing on infrastructure, housing, and industrial development. The plan includes constructing 3,500 housing units—comprising 2,000 social modules and 1,500 IPVU-type homes—and developing 1,430 kilometers of roads and water works for 72,400 people. The government also intends to expand Territorial Development Agencies to 19 to assist 9,000 family producers and modify the Industrial Promotion Law to encourage value-added production.
