Santo Tomás de Villanueva parish anniversaries

The Santo Tomás de Villanueva parish in Tomelloso is conducting a series of commemorative events to mark its 70th anniversary and the 540th anniversary of the birth of Saint Thomas of Villanova. The celebrations also recognize the 50th anniversary of the current temple’s inauguration.

Initial festivities included a mass featuring the Lux Aeterna Polyphonic Choir and the use of a restored Casa Cotrina harmonium. The program of events spans early October and includes a novena, a vigil of adoration, and a solemn Eucharist presided over by Auxiliary Bishop Arturo Javier García Pérez, who is scheduled to administer the Sacrament of Confirmation to local youth.

Additional commemorations include a photographic exhibition at La Posada de Los Portales, running from October 6 to 18. This exhibition displays community-contributed images and historical documents, such as sacramental books from 1956, to document seven decades of local parish history. Other scheduled activities include a lecture on Saint Thomas of Villanova, a mass for the sick, and a children’s drawing contest.
