SAPASA flood prevention and sanitation efforts in Atizapán

The Sistema de Agua Potable, Alcantarillado y Saneamiento (SAPASA) has undertaken significant cleaning and desilting operations in the Atizapán region to mitigate flood risks and improve water flow.

In early 2026, SAPASA completed over 125 cleaning sessions at Presa Madín, extracting approximately 11,000 tons of solid waste and 193,000 cubic meters of silt. This coordinated effort with various water commissions and civil-society groups aimed to reduce the risk of dam overtopping and support regional water supplies for Atizapán, Naucalpan, and Tlalnepantla.

Following these efforts, SAPASA expanded its operations to the Ángulo Dam, removing more than 40 tons of sediment, mud, and debris. These activities, conducted in coordination with the Water Commission of the State of Mexico and Operagua of Cuautitlán Izcalli, are part of a broader municipal program to clean rivers and ravines to protect vulnerable populations during the rainy season.
