Sarawak Sejingkat Bridge infrastructure development
Overview
The Sejingkat Bridge, a 1,281.2-metre cable-stayed structure, was scheduled to open to the public on October 5, 2026, following a pre-opening ceremony. Managed by the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak, the project features a unique diamond-shaped pylon design and was built to JKR R5 standards.
Upon its official opening, the bridge serves as the twelfth completed structure in the Sarawak Government’s initiative to develop 21 mega-bridges. Completed ahead of schedule at a cost of RM365.74 million, the bridge is intended to alleviate congestion on the Kuching-Samarahan Highway.
Key operational benefits include reducing the travel distance between Kota Samarahan and Demak Laut from 29 kilometres to 16.5 kilometres. Future connectivity improvements are expected following the completion of the DC3 road package, which may eventually significantly reduce travel distances between Kuching and Sibu.
