Overview

The Malaysian Ministry of Transport approved RM30 million for upgrades to the Ba’kelalan and Long Banga Short Take-Off and Landing (STOLport) airports in Sarawak. The funding, split equally at RM15 million per facility, is intended for terminal improvements and potential runway extensions to accommodate larger aircraft and improve connectivity for residents and tourists.

In a separate development within the region, the Bebuling STOLPort in Sarawak’s Betong Division completed its first successful trial flight on 18 September, marking the end of its construction phase. The RM248 million facility includes a 1.119-kilometre runway designed for aircraft such as the King Air. While a commencement date for commercial operations has not been set, the airport is expected to support cargo, tourism, and local agricultural markets.
