Sardinia regional infrastructure development

Overview

The Sardinia Region is implementing various infrastructure development programs.

In the water sector, Michele Pais, a Lega councilor, has called for a coordinated effort between the mayors of Alghero and Sassari to secure at least 70 million euros for Northwest Sardinia. This proposed investment would utilize funds returned to the region by Abbanoa to modernize water networks and reduce loss. Separately, the Municipality of Sassari has authorized a payment of over 10,000 euros to Abbanoa Spa for utility costs.

In the tourism sector, the region has launched ‘Le Porte della Sardegna’ (The Gates of Sardinia), a 12-million-euro program funded by the 2021/2027 Cohesion Development Fund. Coordinated by the Regional Tourism Department, the initiative involves ten municipalities and aims to upgrade airports and ports through improvements to access roads, parking, lighting, and greenery. Projects, such as the requalification of an entry point in Oristano, are scheduled for completion by 2030.
