Sardinia regional waste management funding
Overview
The Sardinia Regional Government has implemented several financial measures to improve waste management and environmental recovery across the region.
In early October 2026, the government approved over 5.2 million euros to fund the creation of new ecocenters and the reclamation of areas degraded by waste abandonment. This funding includes specific allocations for thirteen municipalities to establish collection centers and for environmental recovery efforts. Notably, 3 million euros were designated for the municipality of Cagliari.
Following this, the regional government allocated an additional 2 million euros from the 2026 budget to sustain a reward and penalty system for municipal recycling. Managed by the Cagliari Provincial Industrial Consortium, this system provides financial incentives based on recycling rates and the implementation of point-based pricing. These efforts support a regional waste management plan that aims to reach an 80 percent recycling rate by the end of 2029.
