Sassari urban revitalization

In late July, the city of Sassari opened a newly renovated pedestrian square in the historic centre, completing a four‑month, €300,000 project that linked the old and nineteenth‑century districts. The inauguration was marked by local officials and relief from shop owners after construction disruptions, and the municipality signalled further pedestrian‑focused upgrades.

A few days later, the city completed a larger €1 million overhaul of Piazza San Donato, converting a former traffic‑heavy zone into a pedestrian‑friendly space with benches, greenery, bike lanes, play areas and reorganised parking. The August 5 inauguration was attended by the mayor and other officials. Simultaneously, the Michelangelo Pira community space hosted a public meeting and summer festival, reflecting a broader municipal push to upgrade neglected urban areas and encourage local association activity.

Together, the snapshots illustrate a rapid, multi‑phase effort by Sassari’s authorities to revamp public squares, improve mobility, and foster community engagement through cultural events.
